After “L’Orso gentile” (The kind-hearted Bear), 100% Garganega from the pink limestone of Costeggiola in Soave, by the beginning of the summer we have launched the 2nd label of “Vini dell’Orso” (The wines of the Bear). L’Orso saggio (“The wise Bear”) is 100% Durello from Monti Lessini precisely from Monte Faldeo which has a volcanic soil, it aims to reveal a less commonly known aspect of this grape variety which has a unique character and day by day is becoming more famous.
We’re in love with Durella, we’ve been using it for years with a champenoise method in Cuvéé dei Vignato. Remaining on volcanic hills, the grape bunches are harvested by mid October in order to intensify aromas and weaken the strong acidity typical of Durella. The use of stainless steel tanks gives the chance to naturally express the fresh aromas of Durella and the volcanic soul of Gambellara. It matures on its own lees in stainless steel tanks for 10 months until bottling and ages for another year in the bottle. The smell is elegant, with scents of flint stone. Very powerful and sapid in the mouth, a captivating, vertical sip.
