Last month of the year, we’re there, 2023 is about to end and that’s the right time to look back and think about all the 12 months that I have lived among vineyards, travels and personal life.
2023 has been for me the year of proof. The proof that whoever works hard, with effort and perseverance in reaching goals will obtain great results. From a commercial point of view this year has been very productive, and it’s been very exciting talking about relations and clients: both for new clients (it’s always amazing to get in touch with new people, moreover if they’re from abroad) and for the old ones.
This year I have had less time to dedicate to wine fairs, so I have carefully selected some of them: a great choice I have to say. Less wine fairs and more business meetings: I have supported my Italian distributor Meteri during some meetings along Italy from Venice to Campania.
We have also started working with three new distributors in Switzerland, UK and Japan and I went visiting other friends and buyers to get to know each other better and strengthen our business relationship. At the beginning of 2023 my goal was to be able to add 3 new buyers to my list, and of course I can consider myself proud of that: right on target!
Grape harvest has finished by mid-October, a long harvest that gave us great foundations for the future wines. 2023 vintage has been rainy, so we had to work hard with green pruning, a way to let grape bunches dry after the rain and avoid the progression of diseases.
Harvest 2023 has been a long one because we had to go through each vineyard twice or three times to harvest the bunches considering the maturation and health level. It took a long time, but we managed to get to the winery only perfect grapes.
There will be good news for the new year: I’m thinking about two new wines to add to my wine list. I have spent a lot of time thinking about the wines I wanted to obtain, trying to imagine how to produce them from a technician point of view and how to build their future from a business and commercial point of view (who’s going to buy it?). The wines are now ready in the winery, let’s see if 2024 will be the right year for their debut.
I’m already planning new travels and business meetings that will be a chance to get to know new wine operators and wine lovers; research never stops: it’s a crucial point for the development of a business, I strongly believe in this and I invest a lot of time in it.
How will 2024 begin? With a hand surgery, poor me, on the 16th of January, my whole family and people in the winery hope it’s going to be the last one. It will be a quick surgery to repair a tendon. We’ll do our best to live a 2024 full of emotions and satisfactions, and we hope it will be the same for you as well.
